Visitor Visa

Visitor visa allows millions of visitors to come to Canada each year. More than 135 Million people visit Canada every year to see their family and friends or just tourism purposes. You will need a Visitor visa, unless you are a citizen of “visa exempt” countries like USA or Australia.

A Visitor Visa (also called a temporary resident visa) is an official document that is placed in your passport. Everyone who wants to enter Canada requires a Visa unless they are permanent residents or citizens of Canada, or from visa-exempt countries. You can apply for a visitor visa online or on paper. Canada has agreements with many countries that exempt their citizens from requiring a visa to visit Canada for a period of up to six months. However, foreign nationals from visa-exempt countries require a valid electronic travel authorization (eTA).

How long can I stay?

Most Visitors can stay in Canada for up to 6 months. At the port of entry, the border services officer may also put the date you need to leave by in your passport. If you don’t get a stamp or a written date in your passport, you can stay for 6 months from the day you entered Canada.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to get a visitor visa, you must:

  • Have a valid passport
  • Be in good health
  • Have no criminal background
  • Have strong ties to your home country like a job, financial assets and family
  • Have enough money for your visit to Canada

You may also need a medical exam and letter of invitation from someone who lives in Canada.

Please note that your study permit or work permit does not facilitate re-entry into Canada. If your current Visa (TRV) has expired you must apply for a new one.
